Time Magazine Promotes Anti-Jewish Prejudice

11:00 PM Monday, September 6, 2010

In its Sept. 13 edition, Time shocked many readers with a cover image of a large Magen David (Jewish star) comprised of daisies with the title "Why Israel Doesn't Care About Peace." The article, while not quite as slanderous as the cover, nevertheless contains fallacies and invokes anti-Semitic stereotypes of Israeli Jews for whom money is allegedly paramount, more important than any concern for "the Arabs who used to live on this land."

They Don't Speak for Us

04:54 PM Tuesday, September 7, 2010   by max

As direct talks begin between the Israelis and Palestinians, our community faces a choice. We can work urgently and boldly to achieve two states, supporting the President's leadership and a sustained American role.

Or we can let opponents of compromise, inside the Jewish community and out, derail the process and attempt to raise the political costs so high that American politicians walk away from the important role they must play in bringing this conflict to an end.

We have seen, for instance, how a far-right group called the Emergency Committee for Israel, founded by neo-con Bill Kristol and Evangelical Gary Bauer, is attacking pro-Israel, pro-peace Members of Congress across the country with lies and smears - and it is our job this coming year to support and defend those who are attacked.

That's what we promised in creating J Street.  To make clear that the Emergency Committee and its attacks don't speak for our community, we've launched a new website TheyDontSpeakForUs.com,  as well as a new ad calling out Kristol, Bauer and their out of touch records.

Direct Talks Begin

03:52 PM Wednesday, September 1, 2010   by max

The world's eyes are yet again watching the Israelis and Palestinians as they enter direct talks aimed at ending their conflict.

Here at J Street, we've read all the pessimistic assessments about the chances for success. But we agree with iconic Israeli author David Grossman, who gave a moving interview this week in which he said, "I don't have the luxury of despair."

The stakes could not be higher for Israel's very future and the Palestinians' just dream of independence. This is perhaps our last chance to achieve real peace and security through a two-state solution.

J Street President Jeremy Ben-Ami discussed the recently launched peace talks on MSNBC on Thursday, September 4th.

J Street's Response to the Gaza crisis

While the military response by the Israeli Defense forces can be understood and even justified in the wake of recent Hamas rocket attacks, we believe that a military response that is disproportionate and escalatory will ultimately prove counterproductive, igniting further anger in the region and damaging long-term prospects for peace and stability for Israel, the Palestinians, the whole region. Support a new vision for American policy in the Middle East

For too long, the loudest voices on Israel and the Middle East, in the Jewish community and beyond, have come from the right of the political spectrum. Some of these voices claim to speak for the Jewish community as a whole on Israel, while others seek to stifle the political and community debate about what is best for Israel and for American policy.
