On Sunday, October 4, 2015, the Temple Emanu-El Brotherhood conducted their 5th Annual Shofar Factory for 5th grade students of the religious school. Each student was giving a raw ram's horn, shown how to make a shofar from it, helped to make their very own shofar, and then taught how to blow it.
There were two 1-hour sessions of Shofar Factory, each with about 35 students. This provided enough time for the students to learn the fine points of shofar construction, to make their own (sometimes with some Brotherhood member help), and learn how to blow it. The Shofar Factory was again organized by Stephen Shore with Rabbi Levi Gurevitch providing the instruction.
These shofars will be mementos that most of the students will have for years.
